Ah, nothing like passing the torch of classical music creativity to the next generation - especially when that torch comes equipped with hot DJs and Halloween masks... This Thursday, in a partnership with the non-profit Music Unites, the Lincoln Center of Performing Arts in New York will host its Fall Masquerade Gala, honoring DJ and music producer Mark Ronson (behind the likes of Amy Winehouse) and Georgina Chapman, co-founder and designer of evening wear line Marchesa. The Oct. 29 gala, which courts "Young Patrons," will also celebrate Lincoln Center's 50th birthday and recent renovations.
Sounds relatively glam... But in addition to throwing swank Manhattan parties, Music Unites has a mission in supporting various music educational programs, showcasing new artists and endorsing free concerts open to the public - very music for the people.
Be sure to check out the recent Classical TV interview with Kara Barnett, Lincoln Center’s director of strategy and business, over on Michelle Edgar's People to Watch blog (by the way, Michelle Edgar, in addition to blogging like a rock star for us, is the founder and executive director of Music Unites); you'll hear more about Thursday's event, as well as upcoming plans over at Lincoln Center.
Classical TV Editor/Producer Colin Schoenberger brings you the latest news and views from the wide world of performance and classical culture.
