"Bendy Belgian Choreographer" Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui to Launch His Own Dance Company

While I do enjoy The Guardian's intro of Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui as The Bendy Belgian Choreographer, I'm much more excited for the online article's assemblage of video clips of the progressive artist's works. Of particular interest is the 33-year-old Antwerp native's Aprocifu - a sort of examination of various religious texts, featuring seven singers and three dancers - as well as the clip of Dunas, a duet featuring flamenco dancer María Pagés alongside Cherkaoui himself.

Perhaps you caught CTV News' interview with Cherkaoui a few months back (we discussed mostly his collaboration with Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet Company in New York), and if you were unable, of course you should give it a read; he's quite the ... conceptual artist, which I always appreciate. The Guardian piece profiles the choreographer in time to promote Cherkaoui's new dance company, Eastman (the literal translation of his own Arabic surname), which he will launch in January.

Ah, I am always thrilled to learn of the immensely qualified Cherkaoui's growing career. Um, how can I not love the most avant-garde of all choreographers who still admits to an intense love of Kate Bush and Janet Jackson?
