This concert was recorded live from the Philharmonie in Munich. It includes performances of Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No.2 in C minor Op.18, Chopin's Scherzo in B minor and Tchaikovsky's Symphony No.5 in E minor Op.64. The featured soloist is pianist Arkadi Zenziper.

The State Orchestra of St Petersburg was founded in the eighteenth century but was closed down in 1917 after the Bolshevik Revolution. It was re-formed in 1990 by Tschernuschenko, one of Russia's foremost conductors.
