A feature-length film version (75') of Charles Gounod's opera, starring the real-life couple, tenor Roberto Alagna and soprano Angela Gheorghiu.
The original opera, which contains approximately three hours of music, has been cut down to 75 minutes with a new, specially recorded soundtrack conducted by Anton Guadagno. This shortened version of the opera includes the best-loved duets and arias, and concentrates on the central, dramatic story of love, devotion and tragic betrayal.
This 2001 production, was filmed entirely on location in the fairytale castle of Zvikov in the Czech Republic.
